The first continuous and ongoing services of the United Pentecostal Church in Sierra Vista, Arizona
were begun in 1975 by Rev. Rush Locke. Rev. Locke enclosed the carport of his home near Mustang Corner and began having church
services in the enclosed carport.
When Rev. Locke and his family returned to California in
the spring of 1982, Rev. Konrad Keyes was selected as the new pastor. Rev. Keyes’ goal was to obtain a building to house
the church. For a time, the congregation rented a building that was for sale. When the building was sold, the church met in
various other locations in the city, including the old United Methodist Church building on the corner of Coronado and Fry
Boulevard. Finally, during the pastorate of Rev. Keyes, the present church property was purchased in the winter of 1983-84.
In June of 1985 Rev. Robert Allen was elected as the new
pastor. Under his direction, our church building was enlarged to its present size, and the property adjoining the north side
of the church was purchased. The church name was changed to Revival Tabernacle UPC.
September 1989 brought another major change when Rev. Greg
Bryant became pastor of Revival Tabernacle. Under Rev. Bryant’s leadership several more construction projects were completed.
Rev. Lee Wilson became pastor of Revival Tabernacle in
December 1995. Under his leadership the church name was changed to Apostolic Truth Tabernacle. Many improvements to the building
occurred during this time and many people who became members are still members of Apostolic Truth Tabernacle at the present
time.
In June of 1999 Rev. Philip O’Bryan was elected as
pastor and continues to serve in that capacity. Since 1999 the property adjoining the south side of the church was purchased,
an asphalt parking lot was constructed, and various other improvements were completed.
Many changes have occurred during our church’s existence.
Many military personal, both families and individuals, have attended our services while stationed at Fort Huachuca, an army
base which is joined to our city. We have enjoyed their company and contributions. Though most of them have been reassigned
to other bases, we remember them as friends.
The list is long of people who have passed through the
doors or our church. Though we mention no names here, we are deeply grateful for the faithfulness and generosity of the rooted
and grounded saints of God who are a vital part of our congregation. Without them Apostolic Truth Tabernacle would have long
since ceased to exist.
